TBS buckles to lunatic fear-mongering

Turner Broadcasting has buckled to pressure from the lunatic fear-mongers in Boston and agreed to pay $2 million for the city’s completely overblown response to a marketing campaign. Way to go TBS. If everyone just gives in every time we let the terrorists win, well, the terrorists will win. Pardon the rhetoric, but I really don’t see this as being so out of line considering all of the nonsense that’s been spewed from the other side of the aisle like, “If the Democrats win, we’re going to be attacked again.”

Terrorism is about causing terror, not necessarily inflicting damage. “The terrorists” have the Boston authorities so scared out of their mind that they’re jumping at phantasms, shutting down large parts of the city in complete and utter over-reactions to non-threats. Boston is trying to pin the blame for their over-reaction on the performance artists, trying to charge them with “placing a hoax device” and using the word “hoax” in all of their public communications, despite how inapplicable (and inaccurate) it is. The charges against these guys are going to be dropped very soon; the judge already said as much that he doesn’t think the charges apply in this situation. TBS isn’t doing anyone any favors by going along with Boston’s over-reaction and forking over lots of money and public apologies. All they’re “guilty” of is a clever marketing scheme. They shouldn’t have to pay $2 million because Boston went insane and called out bomb squads to start blowing up the Lite Brites, as that response is so over-the-top no one could have reasonably expected it.

And the first press conference by the two men charged for “placing a hoax device” is classic. “We’ll only answer questions about hair.”
