Holy stock scams, Batman!: EGLY, MISJ, UTEV, TTEN

I’m now getting more stock scam emails in my inbox than ever before. It’s really quite depressing. Are people actually falling for these?! I’ll repeat my standard advice regarding all of these stock scam spams: Don’t even think of buying spamvertised stocks. The odds are very much against you if you try to beat the spammer at their own game and try to “get in on it” before the inevitable stock collapse. Just steer far clear and pursue traditional investment opportunities (you know, investing in companies because you think the companies are doing or going to do better than their evaluation suggests).

Here’s an analysis of the individual spams:

First up is a text-only spam for Medical Institutional (MISJ / MISJ.PK)

BULLISH REPORT!

Campaign for: MISJ
Price: $0.24 (Change: +0.07(+41.18%))
Target: $0.95
Market: hellish!!!

Short-term KST. Insider Buying Alert.

Hellish, huh? Looks like they were trying to drive down the price of the stock. And they succeeded. It plummeted 20% today.

Next up on the spam menu, how about some United Envir Energy (UTEV / UTEV.PK)?

Energy Company Alert!!!!

Search for: UTEV
Current price: $0.016
Market: bullish..

Insider Buying Alert. Short-term KST!!

Stock image spams more your thing? Hey, we got those too! Here’s one for Ever-Glory International Group, Inc. (EGLY / EGLY.OB). This stock was up 24% on the day, so it seems like the spam is working. How long until it plummets way down though?

EGLY stock spam

And this next one for Ten & 10 Inc. (TTEN / TTEN.PK) is unusual. I’ve never seen disclaimer text like this in a spam before.

TTEN stock spam with disclaimer

How strange. The disclaimer text seems to be directly contradicting the touting text. Maybe they’re actually trying to earn money on a short position by driving down the price of the stock? I wouldn’t put it past these guys.
