Job interview season
I’m graduating at the end of this semester with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, so I’m right in the thick of job interview season right now. I just sent off another two (virtual) copies of my resume. It sounds like a piddling amount of work, but I’ve also been writing a custom cover letter to each company. This takes a fair amount of work, as I have to do a little bit of research on each company to make sure I know what they’re looking for. One cannot overestimate the importance of good cover letters. Cover letters, even moreso than resumes, are what help to get the foot in the door to secure an interview.
Once I get through to the interview stage, I’m not too worried. I always do well with interviews (hell, it’s how I got my current scholarship), and I think I do a good job of selling myself. Speaking of interviews, I now have several of those coming up too. This whole process is quite manic. In addition to tracking job offers, sending out resumes, visiting employers on-campus, and going to interviews, I also have a full semester of school to deal with, including three computer science classes. This is shaping up to be a repeat of the college-hunting experience from back in my high school days.
So I still have no idea what I’ll be doing in just a few short months from now. I don’t even know where I’ll be living. If I get a job around here I’ll probably live at my parents’ house again for a little bit, but if I end up accepting a job offer elsewhere, I’m going. My life’s future hangs in the balance, moreso than at any other time during my college career.
And the thing is, rather than being afraid or apprehensive, I’m excited. I guess this is a good way to approach it!
