Too close to graduation
I’m so close to graduating college now that I’m pretty much in disbelief. I can count the number of things I have left to do on one polydactyly hand: two projects, one midterm, and three finals. Everything else is done, including our four year long Gemstone Program research project and this semester’s guided study in Mars cratering. The end of things always seem to sneak up on; it was the same situation in high school: Wanting it to be over for the majority of four years, and then when it finally is, realizing that maybe it came just a little too soon.
Ah well, it’s not like life just stops after college. Far from it. I’ll have about two months off after school ends to do fun stuff. We’re going on a family vacation (perhaps our last one together?), and I’m intent on doing some significant open source development work now that I’ll finally have nothing else weighing me down. After my brief intermission is up, I’ll start work at an IT consulting company. I think it’s a good fit for me. I want to travel and experience a lot more different places than I have; this job will allow me to do that, with the added bonus of paying for it. Plus, the work should be interesting.
There are some things I had planned on doing during college that never ended up happening, but so is life. On the bulk of it, it was a good experience. Now I’m looking forward to what I want to do with the rest of my life.
