Counting down the days to Earth’s destruction by miniature blackhole

The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is scheduled to open in May 2008. If you aren’t counting down the days already, you should be. Tevatron, the previous most powerful supercollider, was built two and a half decades ago, so LHC is a huge leap forward. It will produce impact energies of 7 TeV, which is large enough to discover, disprove, or place constraints on many of the proposed fundamental particles that scientists have long theorized to exist. This is truly groundbreaking science, and the possibility of a completely anomalous result that will forever change our models of physics is there, a “Eureka” moment if you will.

Sure, there have been some setbacks along the way. But now we’re just two months away from the opening of LHC. Be excited! Our world may never be the same.
