Just a note on the "junk" side of hamfests. If you are an electronics experimenter, there is no better supply of parts that can't be found anywhere else. If you are an antenna experimenter, there is plenty of goodies for you too. If you are just "an appliance operator" (Don't mean to offend anybody with that, it's just what I call hams that don't know anything about electronics) there are new equipment vendors, so all in all, there is a little something for everybody. That's what makes them so much fun.

This whole post is clearly written from the perspective of someone who is going to a hamfest for the first time, and learning about the community in the process. I don't know where you got the idea that I declared myself a "spokesman for the ham community", but it looks like you're complaining about something entirely different than what I wrote here.

But then again, you are a used car salesman ...

This guy reminds me of folks, who have bought cars from me over the years, who then show up at my dealer strutting around as though they were the original owner, expecting the same treatment and perks buyers who paid $20,000 more a year before are entitled.

If I were that author, I would not be certain to be not weeded out, and furthermore, speaking as though he was a spokesman for “the ham community”.

Next, he’ll be telling us no one talks to him except when he’s working 11-meter.

What an arrogant screwball!

Ben,
Sorry I could not make it up there with you. But as you can see there is a lot of junk up there somethings you may have never known were made till you got there. I am always reminded when I got to these things that one mans trash is another's treasure. You have to remember that there are people and clubs that love to collect old rigs and other gear and fix them like new and use them or even make new things out of them. Its the ham radio way. The way you and I have grow up is a lot different them some of the people that were there. Some/most of them are from the 20's and 30's, where you and I grew up on the internet. I also know your right about the Crap that is sold there by peoply that are every shady that only became a home to try to pass there somehow got carp off to a poor person that knows better. However I think as hams find these people there quick to weed them out. Anyways I am getting ready to go to work. Try to hit me on the repeater later today. I heard you call me yesterday around 3:30-4 but I was on the phone and could not get back. When I did you were gone. I will be out from 2-10 them home for a bit after that.
